Situated just across the Hudson River from Manhattan’s West Side, Jersey City remains among the most sought-after areas in the tri-state region for businesses, residents and developers alike. AESI was retained early on prior to a transaction to perform site assessment, soil and groundwater testing and asbestos survey services for a national residential developer looking to purchase several parcels of land on the city’s West Side.
The project comprised multiple city tax blocks, each with multiple parcels with varying industrial, retail and residential current users and each with 100 years of diverse, historic operations. The planned mixed-use redevelopment project involved more than 400 residential units and ground floor retail.
The AESI Solution
The main portion of the parcels included an industrial facility that formerly was home to a pipe factory in the early 1900s. AESI performed soil and groundwater investigations and remediation and resolved open environmental regulatory issues. Following AESI’s successful remediation efforts, the property was cleared for unrestricted use by the issuance of a Response Action Outcome (RAO).
